The Bay Area Humane Society is delighted to give tours of our facility as we’re very proud of the work we do here and are happy to share it with everyone! Tours are educational, as well as interesting for children. A tour provides children an opportunity to learn about the services the BAHS offers, as well as see firsthand the hundreds of animals in need of permanent, loving homes. Shelter tours are and available by appointment. Donations, off our wish list, are appreciated but not required. For groups of children 1st grade and up, the tour begins with an educational lesson discussing the BAHS programs and services and some basic pet care tips. Students third grade and up will also learn about the pet overpopulation problem with spaying and neutering as the solution. Then the behind-the-scenes, guided tour of the shelter is given, which includes viewing the adoptable animals in our care. The tours help students learn what life is like for shelter animals and what they can do to help keep animals out of the shelters! For groups, tours usually take about 45 minutes to 1 hour to complete.
