The Shelter is always seeking volunteers to help give homeless pets a second chance. We offer a variety of opportunities to fit the skills and abilities of nearly any pet lover.
Volunteers are required to pay a one time fee of $25.00 for individual or $35.00 for families. Volunteer fees offset the administrative costs of running the volunteer program and also include the price of t-shirts and other volunteer activities that occur throughout the year.
BAHS asks all volunteers to volunteer when our staff is here, Monday - Friday 8 am to 7 pm and Saturday from 8 am to 5 pm. Volunteers are required to wear their t-shirts at all times while volunteering. Thank you!
Becoming a Volunteer
If any of our volunteer positions look interesting to you, taking the next step to become a BAHS volunteer is easy. Volunteer Orientation is held the first Saturday of every month (there is no orientation in December due to the holiday season). The orientation will provide you with background information about mission, programs and services of the shelter. Depending on the position you select, additional training(s) may be needed.
Adult Volunteer Orientation: 10:30am - 12:00pm, the first Saturday of the month, held at the shelter.
Family Volunteer Orientation: 1:00pm - 2:30pm, the first Saturday of the month, held at the shelter.
Pre-registration is required. Due to the popularity of our program we fill up quickly. Please contact Brittany Meister at 920.469.3110 ext. 114 or brittany@bayareahumanesociety.com to register or if you have any questions.
You can find our volunteer application through this link.
Family Volunteer Program — children ages 8 to 15 years
The Family Program is for families with children between the ages of 8 and 15 who want to enjoy the experience of volunteering together at the shelter as a family unit. In the family program, a parent or guardian must volunteer with the children and provide constant close supervision of the children while volunteering. All members of the family who intend to volunteer must attend the orientation and TLC training.
Adult Volunteer Program – ages 16+ years
You can join the Adult Program if you are 16 years or older on the day you attend orientation and you do NOT intend to bring children with you to volunteer.
TLC Volunteers
TLC stands for Tender Loving Care. It is the job of TLC volunteers to give loving care to the animals available for adoption at the BAHS. TLC volunteers pet, play with, brush, socialize, comfort and help clean up after the homeless pets at the shelter. The duties of a TLC volunteer will vary depending on whether they work in the dog kennels, the cat room, the small animal room or the laundry and dishwashing areas. All volunteer levels can participate in the TLC Program.
Volunteer Foster Home:
Volunteer foster homes are critical for pets with special needs. Click here for more information from our Foster Home Manual, and here for an application. Contact Tania at (920) 469-3110 extension 104 or e-mail her at Tania@Bayareahumanesociety.com.
Special Events:
There are many important volunteers needed in the planning and organizing of fundraising events like Pet Walk, Bark of the Bay, and Brewfest. If you like to be creative, research pricing, ask area businesses for in-kind donations, or if you have experience in promotional planning or any aspect of fundraising, please give us a call!
Each event also depends on many volunteers helping the day of the event with set-up & take-down, registration, monitor auction tables, and much more. These events do not require a volunteer orientation. If interested, please contact Brittany Meister at
brittany@bayareahumanesociety.com.
